Why YOU Should Collect!

Why Collect?

Collectors have been interested in stamps on envelopes for over 175 years(!) and somewhere along the line, the envelopes of those stamps became collectible too! Click here to find out more about the history of philately...

The envelopes became collectible because of the postmark used on the day of issue. A postmark is an official mark that is stamped on an envelope that gives the place, date and time of posting, which in turn, cancels the postage stamps from further use! This is why we call them ‘First Day Covers’ as they are stamped and cancelled on the day of issue!

So where do we fit into this?

Here at Buckingham Collectibles, we’ve been producing and collecting for over 60 years! And not only do we produce our own First Day Covers, we also curate covers and relics… with the aim of expanding further into the collectibles market in the future (watch this space!)

Our own covers are designed in-house by our very own Senior Designer, Paul. Designed around stamps issued by Royal Mail and expanded upon to produce our own collectible works of art! The stamps postmarked on the day of issue on one of our hand designed First Day Covers are truly special collectibles that you can cherish for many, many years to come!

Our curated collection is researched and valued by our very own First Day Cover Dealer, Craig. Many hours are spent by him; researching the covers we end up collecting ourselves, ensuring they are, not only real but beautiful, historical artefacts that hold real monetary, sentimental and emotional value to our buyers! He can also advise you on your own collection of stamps, covers and other postal artefacts!

So where to begin collecting?

Would you like to begin your own collection of these lovely little pieces of history? On the back of our in-house designed covers, you’ll find a short description that details what the cover is about and the importance of that in relation to the stamps affixed. Below, you’ll find some of our recently released covers, which you can buy at the click of the image!

With purchases of our curated covers, you'll receive a Certificate of Authenticity (COA), for your piece of mind that the cover you have purchased is genuine and as described by us! This certificate is also included with any relics you purchase too! We understand the importance of this proof of authenticity, and you can see how trusted we are by our customers by heading over to our Trustpilot and viewing our ‘Excellent’ rating by clicking HERE
