Stanley Baldwin signed 1923 letter

Stanley Baldwin signed handwritten letter dated 1923 on 10 Downing Street headed paper. He writes 'I accept with pleasure the offer of a box for Sunday evening...it will be a delight to hear your opera...your name was a household word at Cambridge'.

Stanley Baldwin, 1st Earl Baldwin of Bewdley was Conservative Prime Minister on three occasions and the only one to serve under three monarchs. He continued to develop the welfare state, curbed the powers of trade unions after the 1920s strikes, and established the Central Electricity Board which massively increased the availability of electricity. His 1935-37 government instigated Britain’s re-armament process in response to German and Spanish Fascist aggression.
