1934 Sikorsky S-42 World Altitude Flight Record Carried Cover
Sikorsky S-42 World Altitude Flight cover carried aboard the Sikorsky S-42 during its 26th April 1934 record-setting flight, in which the aircraft established two world altitude records. Special cachet ‘2 World Altitude Records – Giant Sikorsky S-42 – April 26, 1934’ and with a Bridgeport, Connecticut postmark dated the day of the flight.
The envelope is signed by the Sikorsky Chief Pilot, along with the National Aeronautic Association (NAA) official observer, certifying the legitimacy of the record flight.
The Sikorsky S-42 was among the most advanced long-range flying boats of its era. Designed by Igor Sikorsky, the S-42 set multiple performance benchmarks and was operated by Pan American Airways as part of the foundation of global air travel. Sikorsky later revolutionized aviation entirely as the inventor of the practical helicopter.
