Paul Tibbets Autograph | Atomic Bomb Pilot

Paul Tibbets signed 1945 Liberation of Europe, The Evening and Sunday Star cover. Pilot of the Enola Gay, the B-29 bomber which dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima.

Tibbets flew the lead plane in the first American daylight heavy bomber raid against Occupied Europe in August 1942, and two months later the first American raid of over 100 bombers. He returned to America in early 1943 to aid with the development of the Boeing B-29 Superfortress and was appointment commander of the 509th Composite Group which would conduct the atomic bombings.
