Pat O'Leary

Pat O'Leary a.k.a. Albert Guerisse signed 1979 Pat O’Leary, RAF Escape series cover.

The Pat O'Leary Line was part of the resistance organisation in France during WWII. Allied soldiers were hidden from the Nazis, given false identity papers and travelled to Marseille where the line was based. From there they were escorted to neutral Spain where British diplomats sent the escapees home from British-controlled Gibraltar.

Pat O'Leary was the pseudonym of Albert Guerisse, a Belgium medical officer and one of the early leaders of the line. Over the course of the war the line assisted more than 600 Allied soldiers and airmen escape; with the total number of escapees from across all the different lines across Europe totalling over 7,000.
