Yuri Gagarin Autograph | USSR Diploma

Yuri Gagarin signed Sports Diploma in Cyrillic typescript. Genuine hand-signed Gagarin autograph on the inside front cover beneath a brief typescript statement dated 2nd May 1966.

Issued by the Bryansk Regional Council of the Union of Sports Societies and Organisations of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic to an un-named comrade for finishing in first place in the traditional 30km athletics race through the streets of the city of Bryansk (which was named after Gagarin). Signed at the foot by Chairman Tsybin of the Regional Council. Some light overall age wear.

Gagarin was the first human to venture into space, when in April 1961 he piloted the Vostok 1. The flight made one orbit around Earth and lasted for 108 minutes. Tragically Gagarin was killed in 1968 during a training exercise in a MiG-15 jet.
