Falklands Conflict, signed Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh

Falklands Conflict 25th anniversary. The Task Force Sails featuring a stamp and label with our official Portsmouth postmark dated 5th April 2007. Signed by Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. The Royal Family do not ordinarily sign covers, so we were delighted when we received a letter back from Buckingham Palace in 2007 that he had agreed in return for a donation to the Falklands Memorial Trust.

Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh (1921-2021) was born into the Greek and Danish royal families, before marrying then Princess Elizabeth in 1947. He was the longest serving consort of a reigning British monarch and the oldest ever male member of the British royal family. Philip joined the British Royal Navy in 1939 and served during the Second World War in both the Mediterranean and Pacific fleets. He left active military service when Elizabeth became monarch in 1952, having reached the rank of commander. Philip retired from his royal duties in 2017, after having completed 22,219 solo engagements since 1952.
