Duke of Wellington Autograph | 1842 Signed Letter

Duke of Wellington signed letter with his initial 'W' - in very good condition. Writing from Walmer Castle on 27th September 1842 to his groom at Stratfield, Saye House, The Duke states 'I find that I shall not require the horse at Windsor Castle as I expected'.

Wellington served a decorated military career, particularly his command during the Peninsular Campaign of the Napoleonic Wars which included the victory at Waterloo. He later served twice as Tory prime minister; from 1828 to 1830, and for less than a month at the end of 1834. He was a strong proponent of Catholic Emancipation and his government passed the Catholic Relief Act in 1829 which bought about near full civil rights to Catholics.
