Christmas 2023 Miniature Sheet, signed Anton Lesser

Celebrating Christmas 2023, the miniature sheet features five new stamps inspired by the most loved traditional Christmas carols. Our limited-edition collectable focuses on Saint Dunstan, Archbishop of Canterbury in the 10^th Century. The stamps are the first to feature the silhouette of King Charles III; a special moment in stamps history.

Anton starred as Thomas More in Wolf Hall, and we worked with St Dunstan’s Church in Canterbury for this issue, where Thomas More’s remains are buried. Anton is well known for other roles including Qyburn in Game of Thrones, Harold Macmillan in The Crown and Major Partagaz in Star Wars: Andor.

DID YOU KNOW?

Thomas More was the Lord High Chancellor of England from 1529 to 1532, during the reign of King Henry VIII. He opposed Henry’s split from the Catholic Church and refused to acknowledge him as Supreme Head of the Church of England. After repeatedly declining to take the Oath of Supremacy, More was convicted of treason and beheaded with his head placed on London Bridge. Thomas More’s daughter, Margaret Roper, who lived near St Dunstan's Church, managed to reclaim her father’s head by reportedly bribing the bridge keeper. She returned to Canterbury and interred his remains in the crypt beneath St Dunstan's Church where it remains to this day.
