Edward Heath was Conservative Prime Minister from 1970 to 1974. In 1971, he introduced decimalisation and took the UK into the EEC in 1973. His decision to call a snap election in an attempt to win a mandate to take on the unions backfired after this resulted in a hung parliament -  &was subsequently defeated by Margaret Thatcher in the Conservative leadership election.
