Dame Shirley Bassey

British singer Dame Shirley Bassey has left an indelible mark on the music industry.  With her powerhouse vocals and commanding stage presence, she has captivated audiences for over seven decades.

Her commanding voice, characterized by its rich, smoky tone and impressive range, has earned her the reputation of being one of the greatest vocalists of all time.

Bassey's career began in the 1950s and soared in the 1960s with a series of hit singles. She is the only artist to have recorded not one, not two, but three Bond theme tunes including "Goldfinger," the iconic theme song for the James Bond film of the same name.  Her ability to infuse emotion into her performances and deliver each song with conviction made her a standout artist.  Beyond Bond themes, Bassey's discography is filled with memorable hits like "I Owe It All To You" and "Big Spender" which showcase her versatility and timeless appeal.

Her influence transcends borders, as she continues to inspire and captivate new generations of artists. Her enduring legacy and iconic status serve as a testament to her exceptional talent and remarkable career.  Dame Shirley’s voice remains a force to be reckoned with and a reminder of the timeless power of music. Her place in the Music Giants hall of fame is beyond doubt and she is very deserving of the brand new set of stamps issued to celebrate her.

Dame Shirley Bassey First Day Cover

Our Designer Nikki tells us:  "I wanted to make these covers big and bold, like Bassey’s iconic voice. This tribute to the Welsh dynamo features a feather-boa design along with a Tiger Bay, Cardiff postmark."

Dame Shirley Bassey Miniature Sheet Cover

Nikki:  "The stamps in the miniature sheet are all about being in the studio, and I wanted to base this around her iconic bond songs so went with the angle of Diamonds to represent ‘Diamonds are forever’."
