As we look back on last year's stamps we wanted to focus on some of the more memorable issues and here are our top picks.

We romanticised about one of the most famous locomotives in the world as Flying Scotsman celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2023. The fierce and power laden green locomotive is the most iconic in the world, known for its speed, majesty and global adventures. 

Blackadder - 40 Years of Cunning Plans

Blackadder, one of the funniest sitcoms of all time celebrated its 40th birthday in 2023. Following the hilarious misadventures of the cunning and conniving Edmund Blackadder, as he tried to climb the social ladder in different time periods, from the middle ages to World War 1.

It featured a talented cast of comedic actors, including Rowan Atkinson, Tony Robinson, Hugh Laurie and Stephen Fry. Blackadder offered a witty and irreverent take on history, filled with clever wordplay, sharp satire and unforgettable characters, all of whom featured in this stamp issue. 

Terry Pratchett's Discworld

We stepped into the extraordinary realm of Terry Pratchett's Discworld and embarked on an adventure unlike any other. Losing ourselves in a world where magic, humour and imagination intertwined to create a tapestry of unforgettable stories. Joining the iconic characters like the witty and resourceful wizard Rincewind, the fearless Granny Weatherwax and the mischievous Death himself. Exploring a universe that exists on the back of a giant turtle, where wizards bumble through spellcasting, and heroes rise from the most unexpected places. 

From Deepest Darkest Peru

Created by Michael Bond in 1958, Paddington is a small, polite and charming bear from 'darkest Peru' who finds himself in London after being discovered at Paddington Station by the Brown family. With his signature blue duffle coat, floppy hat and love of marmalade sandwiches he has become an iconic figure in children's literature. 

Tribute to Dame Shirley Bassey

British singer Dame Shirley Bassey has left an indelible mark on the music industry. With her powerhouse vocals and impressive stage presence, she has captivated audiences for over seven decades. Her commanding voice, characterised by its rich, smoky tone and impressive range has earned her the reputation of being one of the greatest vocalist of all time. 

The magic of Harry Potter lies not only in the fantastical spells and bewitching creatures but also in the richly imagined wizarding world.
