Women of WW2, miniature sheet stamps, signed Jacky Hyams
During World War II, there was an extraordinary group of women pilots aiding the war effort, known as 'Attagirls' or 'Spitfire Women'. They were part of the Air Transport Auxiliary, there were 168 female pilots out of the organisation of 1,250. The ATA ensured that 309,000 aircraft were delivered to the frontline RAF as well as delivering supplies and personnel to frontline squadrons.
These Unsung Heroes are seen on the stamps from the miniature sheet which honours the 'Spitfire Women'. Our cover features a Spitfire Mk1. and a Maidenhead postmark (5th May 2022). Signed by journalist and non-fiction author Jacky Hyams, who wrote 'The Female Few: Spitfire Heroines of the Air Transport Auxiliary'.
