Vikings First Day Cover

The Vikings, Norse seafarers from Scandinavia, played a significant role in the history of Britain, in an age spanning from the late 8th century to the early 11th century. This limited edition stamps collectable has eight stamps which focus on the history, impact and legacy of Vikings in Britain whilst the design shows a Viking longboat. Collectable includes a Stamford Bridge postmark which marks the end of the Viking era as mighty Viking king Harold Hardrada was defeated by newly crowned Anglo-Saxon King, Harold Godwinson at the Battle of Stamford Bridge. A matter of days later Godwinson was himself defeated by William the Conqueror at the Battle of Hastings to begin the Norman rule of England, shaped by Viking influence.
