Karl Donitz (1891-1980) was the Supreme Commander of the German Navy and architect of the U-Boat Wolfpack strategy. He was Hitler's successor as head of state and ordered the signing of the instruments of surrender. At Nuremburg was found not guilty of crimes against humanity but guilty of crimes against peace and war crimes against the laws of war. He was sentenced to ten years imprisonment.
