These are mainly letters folded up and sealed with wax into an envelope shape rather than an actual envelope, often referred to as a 'wrapper'. All are dated pre-May 1840 when the Penny Black was released & as you may guess with something from the first half of the 19th century condition does vary but we will supply the best we have. Some are just the outside of the wrapper whilst others have the original letter still written inside; some still have their wax seals and others do not. The majority have interesting early postmarks and cachets, and trying to read Victorian handwriting is a fun task in itself!
