Spiders First Day Cover

Spiders first day cover, displaying the full set of ten stamps featuring UK creepy crawlies such as the House Spider, Garden Spider, Zebra Jumping Spider and the False Widow Spider. Webb Street, London postmark 26.09.24. Spiders are a diverse and integral part of the UK’s wildlife, with around 650 species recorded across the country.

Our focus for this design is the UK Jumping Spider. It is known for it's incredible vision, with four large eyes on the front and smaller eyes on the sides. This allows them to accurately judge distances and leap up to 50 times their body length when hunting or avoiding danger.

Unlike many other spiders, jumping spiders don’t use webs to catch prey. Instead, they stalk and pounce on insects with precise jumps, relying on their agility and speed. However, they do use silk to create "safety lines" before jumping.
