Alan Cobham (1894-1973) was an English pilot particularly famous for his pioneering of long distance flights. He served with the Royal Flying Corps in WWI and after the war became a test pilot for the de Havilland aircraft company. Cobham was a true celebrity of his day with over 60,000 fans watching him land in Melbourne on completion of his 1926 England to Australia flight. His achievements were recognised with the awarding of the Gold Medal by the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale and his name lives on today as a true pioneer.
