Rupert Bear Centenary First Day Cover

Join us as we mark the centenary of the Rupert Bear’s first appearance in the Daily Express in 1920. This limited edition first day cover focuses on creator and illustrator Mary Tourtel, her links to Canterbury and shows the Vale of Clwyd landscape, the inspiration for Nutwood. The collectable features the full-set of eight new Rupert Bear stamps and a Tourtel Road, Beaney Museum, Canterbury postmark 03.09.2020.

Rupert Bear begin life as Mary Tourtel’s ‘Little Lost Bear,’ his journey to stardom via the Daily Express came when Mary’s husband, who worked for the newspaper suggested her creation. Rupert is Britain’s longest continually running comic strip and continues to be hugely popular to this day.
