The Robin Hood Line wasn't referred to as such until the railway was re-opened from Nottingham to Newstead in 1993, operated by East Midlands Railway. In 1848 when the line first opened, most of it was owned by Midland Railway which was a railway that created a large network of lines which joined London St Pancras, Manchester, Carlisle, Birmingham and the South West from Derby.
