On 21 March 1943 at RAF Scampton, 617 Squadron was formed to carry out a single special and incredibly dangerous task - to attack three major dams on the Ruhr in Germany: The Mohne, Eder and Sorpe. "Operation Chastise" has since become a legend in the annals of military history and it possess all the traditionally admired attributes of originality, surprise and heroism coupled with a very dramatic outcome.
Operation Chastise took place on 17 May 1943 and was carried out using Barnes Wallis' infamous 'Bouncing Bombs" carried inside Lancaster Bombers. Read all about it at www.dambusters.org.uk65th Anniversary Special Signed Edition
This special edition multi-signed cover bears a single stamp from our own 95th Anniversary of the RAF stamp sheet, cancelled on the anniversary date of the raids with a special 617 squadron, Scampton, postmark.
Each cover is hand-signed by 4 members of 617 Squadron who actually flew in the Dam Buster raids. What an honour to own their autographs!
