Diamonds are forever . . . and so is this classic James Bond cover. The design, stylish and simple to compliment the colourful stamps, shows luscious diamonds cascading before the faintest hint of a gun barrel. The cover is postmarked at Mayfair, where James Bond's creator, Ian Fleming, was born - and you will see dice in the postmark, in keeping with the lastest Bond film, Casino Royale. All our James Bond covers are officially licensed by Fleming Productions. This cover is available signed by Dame Judi Dench, George Lazenby or Samantha Bond.
Ian Lancaster Fleming
Ian Fleming was born on 28th May 1908 in Mayfair, London, the son of a conservative MP. He worked as a journalist and stockbroker before the second world war. During the war, as Commander Fleming he found his nich as assistant to the Director of Naval Intelligence. Later he became foreign manager to the London Sunday Times. He is best remembered however, as the creator of James Bond 007.
He embarked upon his career as an author with the first Bond novel, Casino Royale, which was written in 1952 when Fleming was aged 43. He went on to write nine short stories, and twelve novels in total featuring the sophisticated spy including Live and Let Die, Diamonds are Forever, Goldfinger, and Dr No, amongst others. Dr No starred the unknown Sean Connery as James Bond, which was the first film in what was to become the popular and enduring film franchise.
Fleming himself was a well travelled man, who liked the odd flutter in a casino, who enjoyed his martinis shaken rather than stirred and who had a fondness for fast cars, tastes that he shared with a certain fictional hero. He died on August 12th 1964 in Canterbury, Kent aged just 56.
