The Diamond Wedding of Elizabeth & Philip

Their tune was 'People Will Say We're In Love' from the smash hit show Oklahoma! Their faces were those of Britain's favourite and most photographed sweetthearts and on November 20th 1947 they married.

During the ceremony, the Duke of Edinburgh gave Elizabeth a band of Welsh gold, as is customary among the royals, to wear alongside her engagement ring which was fashioned from diamonds that once decorated a tiara belonging to Philip's mother. The wedding was the first royal celebration following the war and Winston Churchill described the occasion as a "bright ray of colour on the hard grey road we have to travel".

Following the ceremony 150 guests enjoyed a wedding feast at Buckingham Palace.
