Elton John

Elton John was born Reginald Kenneth Dwight on 25th March 1947 in Pinner, Middlesex. From the very early age of 3 he was amazing his family by playing songs on the piano! Piano lessons swiftly followed at the age of 7. Inspired by rock and roll music, Dwight would perform like Jerry Lee Lewis at school functions. At the age of 11 Dwight was awarded a music scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music, he had an incredible ability to play back a piece that he had only heard once. Reginald Dwight left school at 17 to pursue his career in music. 1962 saw Dwight with his friends in a blues band called Bluesology, he would also play solo gigs at a hotel.

Elton John was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II on 24th February 1998. Elton John is well known for his association with Watford Football Club, he became the club’s Chairman and Director in 1976, remaining President of the club over the years, stepping down as Chairman in 2002. In December 2014 there was an opening ceremony at Watford’s Vicarage Road for ‘Sir Elton John stand’. Elton John is also very well known for his charities with The Elton John AIDS Foundation, The Elton John Scholarship Fund for music, The Elton John Sports Fund and The Elton John Charitable Trust which has supported over 90 charities over the years.
