Our lovely cover celebrates the 30th anniversary of the first round the world flight of Concorde. It features a single stamp from the 2002 Airliners issue along with a Hounslow, Middlesex postmark (23rd November, 2016).
40th Anniversary of Concorde
British technology minister Anthony Wedgewood Benn announced at Toulouse on the first roll out of the French Concorde 001, that from now on the British aircraft would also be called Concorde. The "e", he said, stood for "excellence, England, Europe and Entente".
The overall shape, aerodynamics, flight controls, propulsion and auxillairy systems made Concorde a generation ahead of any other form of civil transport. Concorde became an icon of her age.
