Forests have always inspired many tales and legends over the years and perhaps among the most famous is the legend of Robin Hood and his band of Merry Men who robbed the rich to give to the poor, using Sherwood Forest as their home and hiding place.
Our lovely cover features the full set of 6 Forest stamps along with a stunning image of Robin Hood along with a Sherwood Forest, Nottingham postmark (13th August, 2019).
Robin Hood is a legendary heroic outlaw originally depicted in English folklore and widely represented in literature, film and television. According to legend, he was a highly skilled archer and swordsman. In some versions of the legend, he is said to be of noble birth, he is sometimes described as having fought in the Crusades before returning to England to find his lands taken by the Sheriff. Traditionally depicted dressed in Lincoln green, he is said to have robbed from the rich and given to the poor.
