The National Railway Museum
The National Railway Museum tells 'The Story of the Train' through the world's greatest collection of historic railway artefacts. From Mallard to Rocket, Bullet Trains to bullion boxes, Royal trains to racing trains; the story of the train comes to life at the NRM.
One of the favourite permanent displays is Palaces on Wheels, with Royal saloons dating back to the pre Victorian era. Visotors have the rare chance to glimpse inside the sumptuous bedrooms, dining rooms and day saloons which really are palaces on wheels.
The National Railway Museum Library Archive is one on Britian's major reference sources for the study of railway history. Since its opening in 1975, the National Railway Museum has built up important collections of books, maps, photographs and archives. These reflect the many aspects of railways in the British Isles, the historic and technical development of locomotives and rolling stock.
Andrew John Scott CBE was Director of the National Railway Museum in York.
