The late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries became known as the 'Golden Age of Children's Literature' as this period included the publication of many books acknowledged today as classics including; Lewis Carroll's 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland', Beatrix Potter's 'Tale of of Peter Rabbit' and J R R Tolkien's 'The Lord of the Rings'.
Some of our most famous pieces of literature and subsequent adaptations into films have their roots in children's literature; Winnie the Pooh, Narnia, Peter Pan, and Roald Dahl's 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' to mention a few. The stories that are read in childhood often form a deep connection and help to explore some of the most complex subjects in life.
Stamps celebrating these fantastic tales will always be popular with children, inspiring young collectors and creating a wonderful sense of nostalgia for the young at heart.
