RMS Queen Mary

RMS Queen Mary was an ocean liner built for Cunard-White Star Line by John Brown & Company in Clydebank, Scotland. She was in service from 1936 to 1967 and primarily operated on the trans-Atlantic route, serving as Cunard's flagship from 1936 until 1946. RMS Queen Mary sailed on her maiden voyage on May 27th 1936 and had achieved the Blue Riband by August; holding it for the majority of the next 15 years. During World War II she was converted into a troopship carrying soldiers from both America and Australia and New Zealand to the United Kingdom. Following a major refurbishment she returned to passenger services after the war but with the advent of the jet engine and her increasing age she was retired in 1967. RMS Queen Mary departed Southampton on her final voyage on October 31st 1967 to the port of Long Beach, California, where she remains moored to this day.
