Tracking changes to definitives is watching postal history in the making. These functional, everyday stamps capture what is going on with the post right now, today. In the future, a definitive collection will be fascinating. On 14th September 2011, to mark the centenary of the birth of Arnold Machin as well as September's Stampex, Hytech Postalvision equipment dispensed a special tribute to Arnold Machin Post and Go Machin-head stamps at Stampex. Our covers are of very limited production, and will be automatically reserved for the regional add-on club customers.
The 40th Anniversary of the Machin Stamps
Arnold Machin designed the portrait of t he Queen which has appeared on postage stamps since 1967 and has become probably the most reproduced portrait of all time; he also sculpted the image of the Queen's head for the first decimal coins. The Royal Mail has lost count of the number of 'Machins' circulated since they first appeared in pre decimal Britiain. A conservative estimate would be 60 billion, and production is still in full spate.
