Beatrix Potter

Beatrix Potter (1866-1943) created some of the most well-known and much loved children’s characters in history and her ‘Tale of Peter Rabbit’ has sold more than 45 million copies worldwide. To this day she remains one of the biggest selling authors of all time and published an incredible 28 books during her lifetime, 23 are most commonly ‘tales’ which she so beautifully illustrated.

A hugely talented artist/illustrator Beatrix often based her characters on real animals and pets that she had. Not everything was smooth during her primitive years of tale writing and ‘The Tale of Peter Rabbit’ was initially rejected by six publishers before she self-published her own edition – a brave and ultimately rewarding move. With the tale in the domain, publisher Frederick Warne saw, and decided to publish, Peter Rabbit. A boom in interest saw six editions produced within the first year!

Yew Tree was owned by Beatrix Potter in the 1930s and is still home to many of her furnishings. Yew Tree Farm also featured as ‘Hill Top’ in the movie ‘Miss Potter’ starring Rene Zellweger.

They offer luxury self-catering accommodation in the main farmhouse. This means guests will have the unique opportunity to experience the famous farmhouse as a holiday cottage with all the charm, character and attention to detail you would expect from a Yew Tree Farm accommodation offering.
