Queen Elizabeth is both our longest reigning monarch and the oldest monarch to sit on the throne, surpassing the record set by her great great grandmother, Queen Victoria. Victoria was born on May 24th, 1819, and lived for 81 years, seven months and 29 days, before she died in 1901. Queen Elizabeth II was born on April 21st, 1926. In 2016, her 90th birthday was celebrated in style. We celebrate Her Majesty's 90th Birthday with this limited edition first day cover.

On the 21st April 2016 Queen Elizabeth II will celebrate her 90th birthday. Recent years have seen many celebrations fro Her Majesty - her Diamond Jubilee in 2012, the birth of Prince George, the next in the line of succession, in 2013, and becoming Britain's longest reigning monarch in 2015.
In her 64 years on the throne she has reigned throught a period of great social and political change. She has always made the Royal Family more accessible to her people. As a young princess she joined the army during World War II and 'did her bit' and she has continued to work tirelessly for her country ever since. As such she is a highly respected and beloved monarch. She has also been responsible for letting the public into her homes with the official openings of Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle to help meet the cost of running these great historic buildings.
