The Tempest is thought to be the last play that Shakespeare wrote alone, dating to around 1610-11, and centres around the exiled Duke of Milan who plots to restore his daughter to her rightful place using illusion and skillful manipulation. Although it didn't attract a significant amount of attention when initially performed, more recent re'appraisal by critics and scholars has led the play to be considered one of Shakespeare's finest. It has been adapted into numerous styles and formats, ranging from operas to science fiction films.
