The Royal Horticultural Society is the world's leading horticultural organisation and the UK's leading gardening charity, offering inspirational flower shows, gardens and over 1,000 lectures and demonstrations throughout the UK.
Their four flagship gardens - Wisley in Surrey, Rosemoor in Devon, Hyde Hall in Essex and Harlow Carr in North Yorkshire - not only provide year-round interest but also demonstrate the best gardening practices, new techniques and exciting new plants. To promote gardening even more widely the RHS has joined forces with over 80 gardens in the UK and 20 in Europe to offer free access to RHS members.
The Society's best-known venture is organising the world famous Chelsea Flower Show, but behind the scenes vital work by RHS scientists and general horticultural advisers ensure that the best and most up-to-date advice is available for all. Apart from Chelsea, the Society also organises two other superb garden shows - at Hampton Court Palace and Tatton Park in Cheshire.
The RHS is committed to handing down the benefits of 200 years of gardening expertise to the next generation of gardeners. Students from all over the world apply for one or two-year courses at the RHS Garden Wisley, and several thousand amateur and professional gardeners sit RHS examinations each year to gain nationally recognised qualifications.
As a charity, the bulk of the Society's funding comes from its membership, which now totals in excess of 340,000. They rely greatly on member's support to fulfil their aim to protect Britain's gardening heritage and help gardeners everywhere.
