Pat Porteous VC signed 1942 Operation Jubilee Raid on Dieppe 50th anniversary cover.
On 19th August 1942, he was a temporary major in the Royal Regiment of Artillery during the Dieppe Raid, tasked to assault the heavy coastal defence guns. Despite serious wounds he rallied the detachment after their officers were killed, and in the face of relentless fire, led a charge against the German position with bayonets.
