Opening of Waterloo Station 175th anniversary

In 1848, the first terminus of the London & Southampton Railway at Nine Elms was replaced; 'Waterloo-Bridge Station' was opened by the London & South Western Railway as part of extending the line two miles to be nearer the city, and served the south and south west of England. Today it is known officially as London Waterloo. The station has witnessed significant events, including being a crucial transit point during World War II. Today, it boasts impressive features such as its iconic clock face and the famous Victory Arch.

To mark 175 years of the UK's busiest station, our collectable features a sketch from 1848 of the extension of the railway, along with a purple 1st Class barcoded stamp and special London SE1 postmark (11th July 2023). It's interesting to learn of the beginnings of the UK's biggest and most used Railway Station that continues to connect millions of passengers each year, embodying the essence of British railway heritage.
