Arthur Tedder signed 1964 Letter

Arthur Tedder signed typed letter dated 8th May 1964 on his personal headed paper apologising for not being able to attend a march & service for the Association of Lancastria Survivors.


Arthur Tedder (1890 - 1967) served in WWI as a squadron commander in the Royal Flying Corps. During the Second World War he in charge of the Mediterranean Air Command overseeing the evacuation of Crete, Operation Crusader in North Africa, and the invasions of Sicily & Italy. For Operation Overlord he was appointed Deputy Supreme Commander under General Eisenhower. After the war he served as Chief of the Air Staff & implemented arrangements for the 1948 Berlin Airlift.
