King George V signed 1919 Military Document

George V signed document dated 19th April 1919 awarding Edmund Clerihew Bentley the licence to wear the Cross of Chevalier of the Belgium Order of the Crown. An excellent condition item embossed with the Royal Seal & countersigned by the then Home Secretary Edward Shortt.

George V was King of the United Kingdom, the British Dominions and Emperor of India. His reign coincided with a volatile political landscape with the rise of both communism and fascism: and increasing independence movements in both Ireland and India. During the destruction of the First World War, his Royal House also became a casualty with the renaming in 1917 to the House of Windsor. The changing political tide saw him in 1924 appoint the first Labour government, and in 1931 the dominions of the Empire were reorganised as independent states within the Commonwealth of Nations.
