King Edward VIII signed 1918 Military Document

King Edward VIII signed document dated 3rd June 1918 in his capacity as Grand Master of the Order of the British Empire appointing Charles Goddard Doctor of Medicine Major in our Royal Army Medical Corps Territorial Force. At this time Edward was the Prince of Wales and the document also has a George V facsimile autograph.

Edward VIII was King of the United Kingdom, the Dominions of the British Empire, and Emperor of India. With the outbreak of the First World War he joined the Grenadier Guards in June 1914, and received the Military Cross in 1916. During his reign he quickly alarmed the establishment with his disregard of protocol and conventions; with his proposal to American divorcee Wallis Simpson causing a constitutional crisis. Edward abdicated in order to proceed with the marriage and was entitled as the Duke of Windsor, his reign lasted only 326 days.
