1902 1d Red, Sherborne postmark

1^st January 1902 1d Red FDC with a Sherborne squared-circle postmark on plain unaddressed cover. These types of postmarks were introduced in late 1879 as an alternative to duplex cancels, which were larger and more difficult to use; their use declined from the 1910s and had disappeared by the 1930s.
