John Alcock & Arthur Brown
John Alcock and Arthur Whitten Brown signed 1919 Reception Programme for an event to meet the duo at Manchester Town Hall. Also signed by Sir William Kay, the Lord Mayor of Manchester. A rare pair of autographs which we seldom have in stock to offer.
In 1919, Alcock & Brown made history with the first non-stop transatlantic flight. Taking off from St. John's, Newfoundland, on June 14th aboard a Vickers Vimy biplane, the British aviators flew to Clifden, Ireland, covering approximately 1,890 miles in 16 hours and 12 minutes. The flight was a pioneering achievement in aviation, proving that long-distance air travel was possible. Tragically, John Alcock died just a few months later on December 18th, when the aircraft he was piloting crashed near Tunbridge Wells.
