James McDivitt signed 1969 Apollo 9 cover with a 3rd March launch day Cape Canaveral postmark. 

McDivitt commanded Gemini 4 which is cited as the turning point of the space race as NASA caught up with Russian capabilities. He later commanded Apollo 9 during which the crew performed the first manned flight of a Lunar Module, proving the craft capable of manned spaceflight.
