Harry Truman (1884-1972) was a Democratic politician and 33rd President of the United States from 1945 to 1953. He was Vice President under Franklin D. Roosevelt from January to April 1945, becoming President upon FDRs death. During his presidency he oversaw the final months of WWII and authorised the use of the atomic bomb on Japan. Post-war he implemented the Marshall Plan to help rebuild Western Europe, and with the beginning of the Cold War established the Truman Doctrine and NATO to try and contain the expansion of Soviet communism.
