Gerard Norton VC

Gerard Norton VC signed 1996 Victory cover.

In 1943 he was a lieutenant in the 1/4^th Battalion, Hampshire Regiment, when during the attack on Montegridolfo, Italy, his platoon was pinned down. On his own initiative he advanced alone and killed the crew of the first machine-gun emplacement. He then attacked the second position containing two machine-guns and 15 riflemen, wiping out both machine-gun nests and either killing or taking prisoner the enemy.
