George III & Duke of Portland

George III & Duke of Portland

George III and the Duke of Portland signed Court at Saint James’s vellum document dated 6th April 1796. A superb item signed by both a British Monarch and Prime Minister.

Military commission appointing John Ready to be a Lieutenant in the 64th (or Second Staffordshire) Regiment of Foot commanded by Major General John Leland. Leland was an Irish-born British General and Member of Parliament for Stamford from 1796-1808. The document is in good overall condition especially considering its age, with only very light wear. It has been countersigned by the Duke of Portland as the then Home Secretary, a position he held from 1794 to 1801, as well as serving as Prime Minister in 1783 and again from 1807-09.
