Edmund Hillary was a New Zealand explorer who became the first man to reach the summit of Mount Everest on 29th May 1953, along with his Sherpa Tenzing Norgay. After Everest Hillary successfully reached both the North and South Poles, making him the first man to reach both poles and the summit of Everest.
Michael Westmacott was a British mountaineer and member of the successful 1953 Expedition. He climbed extensively across the world and continued climbing after Everest and successfully opened new routes in Peru, the Hindu Kush, and Alaska.
George Lowe was a New Zealand mountaineer and was the last surviving member of the 1953 Expedition. Before the Everest ascent Lowe had been a member of the first New Zealand expedition to the Himalayas in 1951 which included the first ascent of Mukut Parbat in India.
George Band was an English mountaineer and the youngest climber on the 1953 expedition. Two years after Everest Band became the first climber to ascend Kangchenjunga, the third highest mountain in the world, which spread across the Nepalese Indian border.
