King Edward VIII signed Royal Visit Programme
King Edward VIII signed 1927 Borough of Lancaster official programme for the visit of the then Prince of Wales.
Edward VIII was King of the United Kingdom, the Dominions of the British Empire, and Emperor of India. With the outbreak of the First World War he joined the Grenadier Guards in June 1914, and received the Military Cross in 1916. During his reign he quickly alarmed the establishment with his disregard of protocol and conventions; with his proposal to American divorcee Wallis Simpson causing a constitutional crisis. Edward abdicated in order to proceed with the marriage and was entitled as the Duke of Windsor, his reign lasted only 326 days.
