Jean first appeared in the 1965 First Doctor serial The Crusade, with Julian Glover and later that year played Sara Kingdom, a companion to the First Doctor, William Hartnell.

David Bradley portrayed William Hartnell in the Doctor Who docudrama"An Adventure in Space and Time," which depicted the creation of "Doctor Who" and the life of Hartnell. His performance was highly praised for its depth and sensitivity.
