Les Munro, George 'Johnny' Johnson, Grant McDonald, Fred Sutherland and Ray Grayston signed 1979 Flying Training School cover, all veterans of the Dambusters mission.


Les Munro was pilot of bomber AJ-W which was scheduled to attack the Scorpe dam. However they were forced to turn back after his aircraft lost all communications after being damaged by flak over the Netherlands.

George Leonard 'Johnny' Johnson was the last surviving veteran of the Dambusters Raid. He served as the bomb aimer on the Lancaster Bomber AJ-T, which despite flying in the second wave was the first aircraft to attack Sorpe Dam due to the already high losses. Due to the huge challenges for a successful attack the crew had to do an astonishing ten flypasts of the dam until they decided on the best approach. Johnson received the Distinguished Flying Medal for his part in the raid.

Grant McDonald was who was the rear gunner on bomber AJ-F, which was the second aircraft of the third wave to attack Sorpe Dam.

Frederick Sutherland was the front gunner on bomber AJ-N which was the third aircraft of the first wave to attack Eder Dam.

Raymond Grayston was the flight engineer on bomber AJ-N which was in the first wave & the third aircraft to attack Eder Dam.
