D-Day Unsung Heroes: Weather full-set, signed Peter Stagg
As the tumult of World War II reached its crescendo, one man stood at the crossroads of history, armed not with a rifle, but with a forecast. 2024 will mark the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings, one of the largest amphibious assaults in history and a key turning point in the war. That’s the much-told events, the relatively untold story however is the involvement of a Scottish meteorologist James Stagg captained the Meteorological effort to predict ideal conditions for D-Day. It was his final predictions that moved the landing date to June 6th as he communicated directly with General Eisenhower. Without his work, the Allies may have ultimately lost many more due to poor weather conditions in the channel and more widely for the entire war effort. This limited edition collectable features a Met Office Weather Map for June 5th and the imperious James Stagg in design. Postmarked in his home-town of Dalkeith, Scotland. Autographed by Peter Stagg, the son of James Stagg who is the focus of the design. Peter is also known for being an international rugby player for Scotland.
